The GM
Lancer Marching Band travelled to Walt Disney World in Florida November
23-28 to march in "The Spectro Magic Parade."
The band
left the day after Thanksgiving embarking on a two-day bus ride down
to Florida. "The ride is usually the longest part of the trip,"
Band Boosters President, Mary Lou Lomis said about the bus ride.
The group
visited Kennedy Space Center to tour the facilities. The band had free
time to enjoy all exhibits and multimedia displays. Later in the day,
band members and chaperones checked in at Love Bug Number 7, their hotel,
for their stay.
"They
[the band] performed in 'The Spectro Magic Parade' through the Magic
Kingdom Saturday night," said Laurie Benzik the tour planner for
the trip. The parade route, roughly a mile long, stretched through Disney's
Magic Kingdom on Saturday night.
After the
parade, the band enjoyed a pool and pizza party at the All Star Movies
Resort. Lomis stated that the band members had a lot of time in the
park to explore and enjoy rides. "We [went to] the Sleuth Mystery
Dinner Show in Orlando for dinner on Sunday," Lomis commented.
The GM
Jazz Band also had an opportunity to show off their skills. The jazz
band played at Monday night at Mercado Village. The band also was able
to view the IllumiNations lights, music and laser show from the Magic
Kingdom.
Campbell
Tours organized the trip for the marching band for the past six years.
"Everyone gets meal vouchers and access to all areas of the park,"
Benzik added. Members enjoyed the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT Center, and MGM
Studios on their visit.
The Band
Boosters also shared that a security company was brought in to watch
the band in the hotel. Band members needed to be in their rooms on time
each night. Security walked the halls of the hotel until roughly 6 a.m.
